* WHAT...Flooding and flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall are possible. * WHERE...Portions of northwest Illinois, including the following counties, Carroll, Jo Daviess and Stephenson and Iowa, including the following counties, Dubuque and Jackson. * WHEN...From late tonight through Saturday evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Widespread showers and storms are expected to develop late tonight and last into Saturday. These storms will be capable of rainfall rates between 1 to 2 inches per hour. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are likely in the hardest hit areas through Saturday evening with the potential for localized areas of 3+ inches.

Air Quality Alert issued September 17 at 3:27PM CDT by NWS St Louis MO

The St. Louis Clean Air Partnership has issued an air quality alert for the St. Louis metropolitan area from 10 AM to 8 PM CDT Friday. An Orange air quality forecast means that maximum ozone concentrations are expected to reach levels that pose a health risk. Adverse health effects increase as air quality deteriorates. Ground- level ozone is an air contaminant which can cause breathing difficulties for children, older adults, as well as persons with respiratory problems. Reducing outdoor physical activity is recommended. If it is a regularly scheduled work day you are urged to consider telecommuting, carpooling, or utilizing public transit. Avoid excessive idling and do not top off when refueling motor vehicles. The use of gasoline-powered lawn equipment should be reduced or postponed until late in the day.
