High Wind Watch issued September 22 at 4:22AM AKDT until September 26 at 1:00PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks AK

* WHAT...South winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 to 70 mph possible. * WHERE...Eastern Alaska Range North of Trims Camp and Windy Pass. * WHEN...From Thursday evening through Saturday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Strong winds could blow around unsecured objects. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The strongest wind gusts are expected late Thursday night into Friday morning. Exact wind gust strength is still uncertain.

We are currently tracking a low that is expected to move through the southern Bering Sea Thursday through Saturday and which could approach the coast of the YK Delta. While the most likely storm track south of our area would result in only modest rises in above normal high water, a further north track could result in high surf potential. As of right now, the southern portion of the YK Delta coast could see water levels rise to around 1 to 3 feet above the mean high water line. We will continue to monitor this system closely.

When a severe thunderstorm warning is issued, the storm may produce damaging winds, large hail, dangerous lightning, and heavy rain. In some cases, heavy rainfall produced by a severe storm can also lead to flash flooding. Do not drive vehicles through flooded areas. The water depth or fast flowing water/mud/debris from a flash flood will make road conditions unsafe.
