Special Weather Statement

Area
Robeson; Bladen; Columbus; Inland Pender; Coastal Pender; Inland New Hanover; Coastal New Hanover; Inland Brunswick; Coastal Brunswick
Special Weather Statement issued January 15 at 8:22AM EST by NWS Wilmington NC

The combination of dry fuels, low relative humidity, and gusty winds will lead to increased fire danger today. Relative humidity values will drop to 25 to 30 percent, accompanied by northwest winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 25 mph.

Special Weather Statement

Area
Rabun; Habersham; Stephens; Franklin; Hart; Elbert; Alexander; Iredell; Davie; Catawba; Rowan; Cleveland; Lincoln; Gaston; Mecklenburg; Cabarrus; Union; Cherokee; York; Anderson; Abbeville; Laurens; Union; Chester; Greenwood; Oconee Mountains; Pickens Mountains; Greenville Mountains; Greater Oconee; Greater Pickens; Central Greenville; Southern Greenville; Northern Spartanburg; Southern Spartanburg
Special Weather Statement issued January 15 at 7:59AM EST by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC

Relative humidity is expected to drop below 25 percent this afternoon as extremely dry Arctic air arrives in the Carolinas and northeast Georgia. Gusts as high as 25-30 kts will accompany this air mass, resulting in potential for fine dead fuel moisture to drop to critical levels. Although cold temperatures will somewhat limit erratic fire behavior, the risk for quick spread of fires will nonetheless be elevated across the North Carolina Piedmont, the South Carolina Upstate, and northeast Georgia this afternoon. Consult your local burn permitting authority on whether you may burn today. If you do burn, exercise extreme caution.

Special Weather Statement

Area
Person; Granville; Vance; Warren; Halifax; Forsyth; Guilford; Alamance; Orange; Durham; Franklin; Nash; Edgecombe; Davidson; Randolph; Chatham; Wake; Johnston; Wilson; Stanly; Montgomery; Moore; Lee; Harnett; Wayne; Anson; Richmond; Scotland; Hoke; Cumberland; Sampson
Special Weather Statement issued January 15 at 7:56AM EST by NWS Raleigh NC

Although temperaures are colder today, the combination of low relative humidity values near 25 to 30 percent, ongoing dry fuels, and wind gusts of up to 25 to 30 mph, will produce an increased fire danger across central North Carolina from late morning through the early evening. Outdoor burning is discouraged. Please consult your local burn permitting authorities as to whether burning is allowed. If you must burn, use extreme caution, as fires can spread rapidly under these conditions.
