Patchy dense fog is ongoing early this morning, especially in and around river valleys. Reductions in visibilities to below one quarter mile will be possible at times and could result in hazardous travel during the morning commute. Fog should begin to lift and dissipate after sunrise.

* WHAT...Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog. * WHERE...Portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, southwest Virginia, and central, northeast, northern, southeast, southern, and western West Virginia. * WHEN...Until 10 AM EDT this morning. * IMPACTS...Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The combination of clear skies, light winds and lingering low-level moisture is allowing areas of fog to develop and become dense this morning.

Special Weather Statement issued May 1 at 3:43AM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA

Plan on patchy dense fog this morning west of the Blue Ridge and from the North Carolina foothills into central Virginia where there was rain Tuesday afternoon and evening. The fog will result in visibility less than one-half mile. Expect rapid changes in visibility when travelling this morning. Allow plenty of time to reach your destination, use low-beam headlights, and add extra space in front of your vehicle. A majority of the fog is expected to dissipate by 10AM.
