Current National Weather
As we move towards the weekend, a strong cold front is bringing late-season snow to the Cascades, northern Plains, and northern Rockies. Expect a foot of snow in the Cascades and a mix of rain and snow in the northern Plains on Friday. This is due to a developing low pressure system pulling cold air from the north.
Warm Temperatures in the East
Meanwhile, the Mid-Atlantic is experiencing an early bout of summer-like heat with temperatures soaring into the 90s, challenging April records. This is because of a weakening Bermuda High breaking down over the next few days, allowing temperatures to slowly moderate.
Severe Storms and Flood Risk from Plains to Midwest
The severe thunderstorm threat is diminishing today from the southern Plains to the Midwest, but an enhanced risk of severe weather, including thunderstorms with frequent lightning, damaging winds, hail, and potential tornadoes, is expected to re-emerge from Friday afternoon into Friday night. Heavy rain could cause flash flooding in areas from Oklahoma to the Midwest through early Saturday.
