US Extended — We've got quite the weather mix heading our way! A lasting heatwave will keep the southern Plains sizzling, while rain takes center stage for parts of the Northern U.S. As a cold front sweeps from the Northern Plains to the Northeast from Friday through Sunday, expect rain showers along its path. A strong storm system will bring more rain by Monday, especially in the Midwest. Meanwhile, watch for a little winter sneak peek in the Northern Rockies.
What's Happening in the South?
For those in the Southern Plains and Mid/Lower Mississippi Valley, the heat is sticking around for a while longer, with potential for record highs. We're all feeling the heat, and it seems relief is slow for the southern areas.
Rainy Days Up North
As we move into the weekend, a cold front will travel across the Northeast, bringing showers and storms. By Sunday and Monday, the Upper Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes will see moderate to heavy rainfall, so keep those umbrellas handy!
Looking West
The Northwest will experience rainfall too as a compact storm system moves through. By the weekend, there's potential for some early winter weather in the Northern Rockies as cooler air settles in behind the front.
