Rainy Weekend Ahead for Southern High Plains and Florida - 10-23 to 10-25
Updated Fri Oct 23rd 2026, 5:53am PDT

Our weekend weather forecast begins with a heads-up for folks in the Southern High Plains and Florida where heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected. A system over the Great Basin will transform into a low-pressure area over Southern California by Saturday, pulling in moisture from the Gulf of California and leading to showers and storms. Pay attention to flash flooding risks in urban and low-lying areas. For the Northern Intermountain Region, expect rain that could turn to snow on higher elevations.

Southwest and Southern Rockies

Friday - An upper-level low is forming, making its presence felt with showers and severe thunderstorms. This includes frequent lightning, gusty winds, and even hail. In some places, storms could be strong enough to produce a few tornadoes. Rain, possibly snow on higher grounds, will fall over parts of the Northern Intermountain Region through the evening as well.

Southern High Plains

Saturday - More showers and thunderstorms are coming your way. Flash flooding is a concern, especially in urban areas and spots with small streams or burn scars. The threat of severe weather, including strong thunderstorms, continues.

Florida

Saturday and Sunday - Showers and thunderstorms will be frequent due to winds from the Atlantic. Heavy rain could lead to flash flooding in low-lying zones and city streets.

Northern Plains to Great Lakes

Friday to Sunday - A moving front will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms across the Northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley on Friday, spreading to the Upper Midwest by Saturday, and reaching the Upper Great Lakes by Sunday. Meanwhile, the Northeast benefits from high pressure keeping things mostly dry.
