Current National Weather
The majority of the U.S. is set for fair weather, thanks to a large high pressure system keeping things calm. However, heavy rain is moving out of southeastern New England this morning, while another rain event is emerging over southern New Mexico and will push into southern Texas by Sunday, lingering into Monday. Meanwhile, the Pacific Northwest is gearing up for some windy, wet weather.
East Coast Weather
This morning, the heavy rain will gradually leave southeastern New England as a slow-moving front moves off the East Coast. An upper-level low over the Great Lakes will bring cold air from Canada, resulting in rain for the lower Great Lakes to New England today. Some higher spots in New England might even see some wet snow tonight into Sunday morning. This wintry mix is due to the cold air being drawn in by the upper low. Maine will see the rain last the longest, clearing up by late Sunday when the upper low moves to eastern Canada. By early Monday, another system will bring rain back to the lower Great Lakes and upstate New York.
Southern Plains Rainfall
In the Desert Southwest, another upper-level low is causing moderate to heavy rain from southern New Mexico to western Texas this morning. The rain will move southeast into southern Texas by Sunday, where several inches of rain are expected by Monday. This is due to moisture from the Gulf being pushed north by the low pressure system.
Pacific Northwest Weather
The Pacific Northwest is in for some stormy weather as two fast-moving cyclones approach. The first has already arrived, and more showers with gusty winds are expected tonight.
Other U.S. Conditions
The northern High Plains will stay dry with temperatures warmer than usual and gusty winds from the west to southwest. Meanwhile, the high pressure system in the middle of the country will keep the eastern U.S. and the Deep South cooler than normal.
