Storms and Heat Wave Impact U.S. - July 16-18, 2025
Updated Tue Jul 15th 2025, 3:52pm PDT

A mix of weather conditions is set to impact the U.S. through midweek. Expect heavy rain and potential flash floods in the Mid-Atlantic and Appalachians, while a tropical disturbance threatens Florida with downpours. The Midwest and northern Plains may experience severe storms with flooding. A significant heatwave is spreading across the eastern U.S., with dangerously high temperatures. Stay prepared and safe!

Mid-Atlantic and Appalachians

We’re keeping an eye on a rain-heavy system impacting the Mid-Atlantic and Appalachians. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially in the central and southern areas. These will likely continue from Tuesday afternoon into the night, moving northwards to the upper Ohio Valley by Wednesday, bringing heavy rains and possible flash floods.

Florida and Gulf Coast

A tropical disturbance close to Florida is being monitored. Whether it develops further or not, it will bring deep tropical moisture and thunderstorms, leading to heavy rains and potential flash floods across Florida and the eastern to central Gulf Coast.

Midwest and Northern Plains

A strong summer storm is sweeping through the Upper Midwest into the Northeast, with a cold front moving into the northern and central Plains. Expect multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms. Some may turn severe, with damaging winds and large hail, particularly in areas like central Nebraska.

Eastern U.S. Heatwave

A hot and humid airmass is building across much of the eastern U.S. Daytime temperatures could soar to the 90s from the Ohio Valley to northern New England, with little relief at night. A Major HeatRisk warning is in place, signaling dangerous heat conditions, especially for vulnerable people.

Other Regions

Post the front, a cooler airmass will bring relief to the northern and central Plains. Expect highs 20 to 30 degrees below average. Meanwhile, the Pacific Northwest will experience above-normal heat, reaching near 100 degrees. In the Southwest, cooler temperatures may occur due to monsoonal moisture.
