Current National Weather
The start of the week is bringing some diverse weather to different parts of our nation. Expect snow in the Cascades and Northern Rockies, as well as across the Northern Plains. Meanwhile, rain showers are anticipated in the Central Plains and the Upper Mississippi Valley. Thunderstorms are likely in the Southern High Plains, Western Gulf Coast, and eastern Texas. Also, those in Florida can expect some thunderstorms as well.
Snowy Monday and Tuesday in the Northwest and Northern Plains
On Monday and Tuesday, an upper-level trough, which is a dip in the jet stream, will guide a weather front eastward. This means we will see snow in the Cascades and Northern Rockies. By Monday, the Northern Plains will also experience wet snow, which is expected to continue until Tuesday evening. Snow is likely here due to the cold air being funneled in from the north, perfect conditions for snowflakes instead of rain.
Rain and Storms in the Central Areas
As a front moves east, the Northern and Central Plains along with the Upper Mississippi Valley will experience rain from Monday through Wednesday morning. This is due to a system moving northeast across these regions. Thunderstorms will develop in the Southern High Plains by Tuesday morning, and easterly winds from the Gulf will bring showers and thunderstorms to the Western Gulf Coast and eastern Texas.
Florida's Stormy Skies
Florida and the Keys can expect showers and thunderstorms due to easterly winds coming from the Atlantic. This weather pattern will persist through Wednesday, so keep those umbrellas handy!
