Rain and Storms in the West, Heat Persists in the South - 09-14 to 09-16

This week, Western and Central U.S. will see an active weather pattern with showers and thunderstorms due to a strong weather front moving from the Rockies to the Plains. The South-Central U.S. will continue experiencing dangerous heat into midweek. Be prepared for flash floods in the Central Plains and record-breaking heat in the South!

Western U.S. and Plains

Monday starts with a moist air mass moving north, causing showers and thunderstorms from the Intermountain West to the Central Plains. This creates risks of flash flooding and severe weather. The thunderstorms will persist into Wednesday as the cold front slowly moves south, keeping the Plains wet and stormy.

The Southern Rockies will also see daily thunderstorms. The combination of a cold front and warm moist air will lead to rain instead of snow.

South-Central U.S.

For the Mid/Lower Mississippi Valley, an upper ridge will push temperatures into the 90s and low 100s from Monday through Wednesday. This extreme heat could break records and poses health risks, especially with warm nights offering little relief.
