CONUS — The Midwest will see heavy rain and possible severe weather moving toward interior New England tonight. The high temperatures in the south-central U.S. will ease up by Thursday. Showers and storms are expected across the Central Plains to the Mid-Atlantic, with heavy rain in the central Appalachians. Monsoon moisture will bring afternoon storms to Arizona and New Mexico, potentially causing flash floods. Meanwhile, the Southeast U.S. will experience lingering showers, and dry conditions continue in the Northwest.
Midwest to New England
Today, heavy rain and severe weather will spread from the Midwest to the lower Great Lakes and reach interior New England by tonight. A cold front, associated with a low-pressure system from southern Canada, is the driver of this weather change.
South-Central U.S.
By Thursday, the oppressive heat wave across the south-central U.S. will ease. A cold front will bring in some relief with showers, clouds, and occasional thunderstorms.
Central Plains to Mid-Atlantic
Over the next couple of days, expect showers and thunderstorms stretching from the Central Plains to the Mid-Atlantic. Today, locally heavy rain is likely in the Mid-Mississippi Valley, followed by the central Appalachians on Thursday.
Southwest U.S.
Monsoonal moisture will lead to afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms in Arizona and New Mexico. Some storms may reach into Colorado today. Be cautious, as heavy rainfall could cause flash flooding, especially in urban areas and near burn scars.
Southeast U.S.
Showers and storms will linger in the Southeast, particularly along the coast and in Florida, due to a weakening front in the area.
Northwest U.S.
The Northwest will enjoy calm, dry weather for now. However, a cold front will bring the next chance for showers by Thursday.
