Special Weather Statement

Special Weather Statement issued April 16 at 1:22PM CDT by NWS Green Bay WI

East winds have increased to 15 to 30 mph with gusts around 45 mph early this afternoon. The increasing winds combined with dry topsoil moisture has resulted in blowing dust being reported on Highway 54 between Plower and Wisconsin Rapids, and on Interstate 39 between Plover and Coloma. Strong east winds will continue with gusts to 50 mph possible for the remainder of the afternoon, resulting in areas of blowing dust especially across southern Portage and western Waushara counties. If you are traveling along Highway 54 in Portage County and Interstate 39 between Plover and Coloma, be on the lookout for lower visibilities due to blowing dust. The risk of blowing dust and lower visibilities will come to an end late this afternoon as rain moves into the area. If you encounter areas of blowing dust, slow down and allow extra room between you and the car in front of you.

Special Weather Statement

Special Weather Statement issued April 16 at 4:01AM CDT by NWS Green Bay WI

Elevated fire weather conditions will persist across northern Wisconsin during the afternoon. Mild temperatures and low relative humidity will continue as east winds increase and gust to 30 to 45 mph this afternoon. Rain will arrive tonight, and bring a temporary end to the fire concerns. Persons are urged to be careful with any activities that could potentially lead to a wildland fire. Campfires, outdoor grills, smoking materials, chain saws, and all-terrain vehicles all have the potential to throw a spark and ignite a fire. Burning bans are in effect across most of the area, so be sure to heed any restrictions that are in place in your county.
