...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED ON WEDNESDAY... A persistent trough over the Central Rockies will maintain dry west flow across the U.S. Southwest again on Wednesday and allowed continued breezy conditions area wide. Gusty winds will redevelop during the afternoon hours combining with very low relative humidity to create critical fire danger conditions. Recent lack of precipitation has progressed fuel dryness to a point where wildfire starts will be possible and spread aided by weather conditions. * AFFECTED AREA...Texas Fire Weather Zone 055 El Paso County, Texas Fire Weather Zone 056 Hudspeth County, Fire Weather Zone 110 Southwest Mountains/Gila NF/Apache NF/GLZ, Fire Weather Zone 111 Southwest Deserts and Lowlands/Las Cruces BLM/GLZ, Fire Weather Zone 112 South Central Lowlands and Southern Rio Grande Valley/BLM/GLZ and Fire Weather Zone 113 Capitan and Sacramento Mountains/Lincoln NF/LNZ. * TIMING...From Noon to 9 PM Wednesday. * WINDS...West 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...7 to 14 percent. * EXPERIMENTAL RFTI...4 to 6 Near Critical to Critical. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. ...RED FLAG WARNING WEDNESDAY FROM 11 AM UNTIL 8 PM IN EASTERN NM DUE TO STRONG WINDS, VERY LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY, AND AN UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE... .Critical conditions are forecast to redevelop Wednesday afternoon east of the central mountain chain. The lowest relative humidity and strongest winds will focus over the northeast highlands and northeast plains. * AREA AND TIMING...Northeast and east central plains (Zones 104 and 126) and the central and northeast highlands (Zones 123 and 125) from 11 AM until 8 PM. * 20 FOOT WINDS...West and northwest 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, particularly in the central and northeast highlands. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Minimum values between 7 and 13 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. ...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, 20-FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO AND WEST TEXAS SOUTH TO THE PRESIDIO VALLEY... * AFFECTED AREA...Loving, Sacramento Foothills and Guadalupe Mountains, Chaves Plains, Eddy Plains, Lea, Guadalupe Mountains Above 7000 Feet, Guadalupe and Delaware Mountains, Van Horn and Highway 54 Corridor, Eastern Culberson County, Reeves County Plains, Chinati Mountains, Marfa Plateau, Davis Mountains, Davis Mountains Foothills and Presidio Valley. * TIMING...From Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening. * WINDS...West 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, stronger gusts in the mountains. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 6 percent. * RFTI...6 to 8 or critical to extreme. * IMPACTS...Avoid the use of open flames or any activities that may generate sparks, such as outdoor burning or welding. Extinguish cigarettes in vehicles. Accidental ignitions will have the potential to grow into dangerous wind-driven wildfires.

Special Weather Statement

Special Weather Statement issued May 7 at 2:19PM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM

Temperatures may briefly drop 32 degrees Wednesday morning in the Northwest Plateau, including Farmington and Shiprock. Locations closer to the San Juan river and other nearby river valleys will have a greater chance of dropping below freezing. A Freeze Warning may be issued for Thursday morning when temperatures may drop below freezing for up to 3 hours. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

...The Flood Advisory continues for the following rivers in New Mexico... Rio Chama Below Abiquiu Dam affecting Rio Arriba County. .Snow melt and increased reservoir releases will cause the river flows to become high. Expect minor flooding downstream from the dam. * WHAT...Flooding caused by snowmelt continues. * WHERE...Rio Chama Below Abiquiu Dam. * WHEN...Until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 4.8 feet, Bankfull Stage. Approximately 1460 cfs. Houses near Highway 84 along river will see water begin to encroach their yards. Cattle that cross the river at lower flows may be trapped on one side or the other. If flows out of the Rio Ojo Caliente are 550 cfs or higher properties near and below the confluence with the Rio Chama may encroachment of water onto land immediately adjacent to the river along with bank erosion. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 8:15 AM MDT Tuesday the stage was 4.8 feet. - Bankfull stage is 4.8 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to remain steady below flood stage at 4.8 feet. - Action stage is 4.8 feet. - Flood stage is 5.4 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Properties immediately adjacent to the river upstream of the bridge on SR-74 and especially near the junction with the Rio Ojo Caliente may see water encroach onto low lying areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 8:00 AM MDT Tuesday the stage was 5.7 feet. - Bankfull stage is 5.5 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to remain steady below flood stage at 5.7 feet. - Action stage is 5.5 feet. - Flood stage is 6.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
