High Wind Warning

High Wind Warning issued May 9 at 10:46PM MDT until May 10 at 11:00AM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM

* WHAT...East winds 35 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible. * WHERE...Middle Rio Grande Valley including the Albuquerque Metro Area. * WHEN...Until 11 AM MDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The strongest winds will focus immediately below canyons in eastern Albuquerque and Placitas. Blowing dust is also likely.

Special Weather Statement

Special Weather Statement issued May 9 at 3:18PM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM

An unseasonably cool weather system will impact NM tonight and Friday with several inches of snow possible in the northern high terrain above 9,000 feet. Rain and high elevation snow showers currently initiating across the northern mountains will increase in coverage tonight and early Friday. Snowfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches are possible with locally higher amounts possible above 10,000 feet. Folks planning recreation activities in the higher terrain of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the San Juan/Tusas Mountains should be prepared for accumulating snowfall and cold temperatures. Low visibility is also expected with localized slick travel possible through Bobcat Pass and portions of U.S. 64 near Hopewell Lake.

...The Flood Advisory continues for the following rivers in New Mexico... Rio Chama Below Abiquiu Dam affecting Rio Arriba County. .Snow melt and increased reservoir releases will cause the river flows to become high. Expect minor flooding downstream from the dam. * WHAT...Flooding caused by snowmelt continues. * WHERE...Rio Chama Below Abiquiu Dam. * WHEN...Until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 4.8 feet, Bankfull Stage. Approximately 1460 cfs. Houses near Highway 84 along river will see water begin to encroach their yards. Cattle that cross the river at lower flows may be trapped on one side or the other. If flows out of the Rio Ojo Caliente are 550 cfs or higher properties near and below the confluence with the Rio Chama may encroachment of water onto land immediately adjacent to the river along with bank erosion. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 6:15 AM MDT Thursday the stage was 4.8 feet. - Bankfull stage is 4.8 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to remain steady below flood stage at 4.8 feet. - Action stage is 4.8 feet. - Flood stage is 5.4 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Expect minor flooding downstream from the dam. * WHAT...Flooding caused by snowmelt continues. * WHERE...Rio Chama below Chamita. * WHEN...Until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 5.5 feet, Bankfull stage. Properties immediately adjacent to the river upstream of the bridge on SR-74 and especially near the junction with the Rio Ojo Caliente may see water encroach onto low lying areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 7:00 AM MDT Thursday the stage was 5.7 feet. - Bankfull stage is 5.5 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to remain steady below flood stage at 5.7 feet. - Action stage is 5.5 feet. - Flood stage is 6.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
