...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, 20-FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR THE GUADALUPE MOUNTAINS, SACRAMENTO FOOTHILLS, AND EDDY AND CHAVEZ COUNTY PLAINS... * TIMING...This afternoon through this evening. * WINDS...Southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Higher wind speeds in the mountains. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 7 percent. * RFTI...5 to 6 or critical. * IMPACTS...Avoid the use of open flames or any activities that may generate sparks. Accidental ignitions will have the potential to grow into dangerous wind-driven wildfires.

Rio Chama Below Chamita affecting Rio Arriba County. .Snow melt and increased reservoir releases will cause the river flows to become high. Expect minor flooding downstream from the dam. * WHAT...Flooding caused by snowmelt continues. * WHERE...Rio Chama below Chamita. * WHEN...Until early Friday afternoon. * IMPACTS...At 5.5 feet, Bankfull stage. Properties immediately adjacent to the river upstream of the bridge on SR-74 and especially near the junction with the Rio Ojo Caliente may see water encroach onto low lying areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 7:00 AM MDT Wednesday the stage was 5.5 feet. - Bankfull stage is 5.5 feet. - Forecast...The river will rise to 5.7 feet this evening. It will then fall to 5.5 feet tomorrow morning. It will rise to 5.6 feet early tomorrow afternoon. It will then fall to 5.4 feet Friday morning. It will rise to 5.5 feet early Friday afternoon. ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT ACROSS EASTERN NEW MEXICO AND THE UPPER RIO GRANDE VALLEY LATE MORNING THROUGH EVENING DUE TO STRONG WINDS, LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY AND AN UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE... .Southwest winds will increase today ahead of a disturbance over the Great Basin. 20 foot winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 35 to 40 mph, relative humidity falling to or below 10 percent for a few hours, high Haines and dry fine fuels will result in critical fire weather conditions late morning through early evening. Critical fire weather conditions wane after sunset as winds taper off and relative humidity rises. * AREA AND TIMING...Northeast Plains (Zone 104), Northeast Highlands (Zone 123), Central Highlands (Zone 125), East Central Plains (Zone 126) and the Upper Rio Grande Valley (Zone 121) late morning through evening. * 20 FOOT WINDS...Southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with peak gusts of 35 to 40 mph Wednesday afternoon. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Falling to 6 to 10 percent Wednesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
