Cooper Landing Warnings, Watches and Advisories

When a severe thunderstorm warning is issued, the storm may produce damaging winds, large hail, dangerous lightning, and heavy rain. In some cases, heavy rainfall produced by a severe storm can also lead to flash flooding. Do not drive vehicles through flooded areas. The water depth or fast flowing water/mud/debris from a flash flood will make road conditions unsafe. Hydrologic Outlook issued August 26 at 3:50PM AKDT by NWS Anchorage AK

ESFAFC Locations: * Yentna and Skwentna River basins * Rivers, creeks, and streams with headwaters along the western Talkeetna Mountains, including Moose Creek near Oilwell Road Timing: * Thursday evening through Saturday Evening. Heaviest rain Thursday night through Friday morning. Rainfall: * Widespread rainfall of 0.5 to 1.5 inches of rain is likely (60-70%) across the Susitna Valley late Thursday Night through Saturday evening. Highest rain amounts will likely be in Susitna Valley north of Talkeetna (including Petersville), and in Hatcher Pass. Hydrologic Concerns: * Expect sharp rises on many small streams and rivers, including the Yentna at Lake Creek. River rises from this upcoming Thursday through Saturday storm will likely be less than was observed following the Tuesday storm. * Many lower locations along rivers such as gravel bars and other spots popular for camping and recreating may become inundated with water with rivers reaching bankfull conditions. * Heavy rain may result in localized ponding in low-lying areas and locations with poor drainage. Wind Advisory issued August 26 at 1:33PM AKDT until August 28 at 4:00PM AKDT by NWS Anchorage AK

* WHAT...South to southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected, mainly near the coast. * WHERE...Kuskokwim Delta, Western Capes, and Northern Bristol Bay Coast. * WHEN...From 10 AM Thursday to 4 PM AKDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A strong front will approach the Southwest Alaska coastline by Thursday morning, bringing southerly to southwesterly winds that are expected to gust to 50 mph, mainly for coastal areas. The strongest winds look to push into Kuskokwim Bay and across the Delta Thursday afternoon into the evening before this corridor of winds shifts farther south and over Bristol Bay Thursday night. With a long fetch of high end small craft and gale force winds, this will result in higher waves and rough seas along the Kuskokwim Bay coast. Even though winds are expected to slowly decrease later Friday morning, high seas coinciding with high tide Friday afternoon will likely push water levels 1 to 2 feet above the normal high tide line for the Kuskokwim Bay coast.

* WHAT...South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected. * WHERE...Eastern Alaska Range North of Trims Camp. * WHEN...From 1 AM to 10 PM AKDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds quickly ramp up early Friday morning and peak around 4 am to 7am. Winds then slowly weaken through the day Friday.

Special Weather Statement issued August 26 at 6:47AM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks AK

Snowfall will be likely through the day. Given the rain beforehand and the near/above freezing temperatures, snow will struggle to accumulate immediately but there will be minor accumulations by this morning. There may be a brief break later this morning into the early afternoon, likely allowing snow to gradually melt. Then snow returns Wednesday evening before diminishing into snow showers Thursday morning. Additional snow totals around 1 to 2 inches are expected early this morning in the area from Atigun Pass to Sagwon. Snow will continue through the day but struggle to stick due to warmer temperatures and higher sun angle. Another 1 to 2 inches of snow are expected to accumulate tonight before tapering off.
