...The Flood Advisory continues for the following rivers in New Mexico... Rio Chama Below Chamita affecting Rio Arriba County. .Snow melt and increased reservoir releases will cause the river flows to become high. Expect minor flooding downstream from the dam. * WHAT...Flooding caused by snowmelt continues. * WHERE...Rio Chama below Chamita. * WHEN...Until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 6.0 feet, Properties in the flood plain along the Rio Chama and near the junction of the Rio Ojo Caliente will see water in their yards. Impacts can include bank erosion and damage to wells and septic tanks. These impacts will increase in severity at higher river levels. At 5.5 feet, Bankfull stage. Properties immediately adjacent to the river upstream of the bridge on SR-74 and especially near the junction with the Rio Ojo Caliente may see water encroach onto low lying areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 7:00 AM MDT Wednesday the stage was 5.7 feet. - Bankfull stage is 5.5 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 5.8 feet this evening. - Action stage is 5.5 feet. - Flood stage is 6.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Rio Chama Below Abiquiu Dam affecting Rio Arriba County. .Snow melt and increased reservoir releases will cause the river flows to become high. Expect minor flooding downstream from the dam. * WHAT...Flooding caused by snowmelt continues. * WHERE...Rio Chama Below Abiquiu Dam. * WHEN...Until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 4.8 feet, Bankfull Stage. Approximately 1460 cfs. Houses near Highway 84 along river will see water begin to encroach their yards. Cattle that cross the river at lower flows may be trapped on one side or the other. If flows out of the Rio Ojo Caliente are 550 cfs or higher properties near and below the confluence with the Rio Chama may encroachment of water onto land immediately adjacent to the river along with bank erosion. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 7:15 AM MDT Wednesday the stage was 4.8 feet. - Bankfull stage is 4.8 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to remain steady below flood stage at 4.8 feet. - Action stage is 4.8 feet. - Flood stage is 5.4 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

...RED FLAG WARNING TODAY FROM 11 AM TO 8 PM MDT ACROSS EASTERN NM AND UPPER RIO GRANDE VALLEY DUE TO STRONG WINDS, VERY LOW HUMIDITY, AND AN UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE... .Critical conditions are forecast to redevelop Wednesday afternoon east of the central mountain chain and within the Upper Rio Grande Valley. The lowest relative humidity and strongest winds will focus over the northeast highlands and northeast plains. * AREA AND TIMING...Northeast and East Central Plains (Zones 104 and 126) and the Central and Northeast Highlands (Zones 123 and 125) from 11 AM until 8 PM. * 20 FOOT WINDS...West and northwest 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, particularly in the central and northeast highlands. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Minimum values between 6 and 12 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Tree limbs may be blown down. Expect strong crosswinds and patchy blowing dust on area roadways. This includes portions of I-25 south of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and I-40 near Clines Corners.
