At 830 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Bailey to 8 miles northeast of Garner to near Cary, moving southeast at 15 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include... Raleigh, Cary, Wilson, Garner, Zebulon, Bailey, Bunn, RDU International, Apex, and Holly Springs. This includes the following highways... Interstate 95 near Mile Marker 121. * WHAT...Dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...The beaches from Duck to Cape Lookout. * WHEN...From 6 AM EDT Monday through Monday evening. * IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The most likely time for strong rip currents to occur is a couple hours either side of low tide, which will occur around 1:00 PM Monday.

At 758 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 7 miles west of Nashville to 6 miles south of Louisburg to near Wake Forest to 6 miles east of Durham. Movement was southeast at 10 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Movement was east at 10 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Fayetteville, Sanford, Laurinburg, Southern Pines, Rockingham, Clinton, Raeford, Carthage, Fort Bragg, and Pinehurst. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - An upper level low has been cut off across the region, which has led to extremely slow storm motions areawide. PWATs in the 1.8 to 2.1 inch range will lead to very efficient rainfall rates, and heavy rainfall potential. Ongoing shower and thunderstorm activity has already resulted in several flood advisories and a couple flash flood warnings today. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...A portion of northeast North Carolina, including the following areas, Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Eastern Currituck, Gates, Hertford, Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans and Western Currituck. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A quasi west-east upper trough remains nearly stationary from KY through VA this afternoon. This has allowed for scattered showers earlier today and last night with locally heavy rainfall. Rainfall totals have locally already exceeded 2.5 to 3 inches in some locations. The latest guidance shows showers and embedded storms becoming more widespread this afternoon into tonight with localized totals of 3 to 5 inches possible.
